While the vast majority of hours in the Texas energy markets see relatively low prices, under certain circumstances prices can spike and in addition to the impact of rising real-time prices, businesses on block and index contracts will be exposed to periods of price spikes, such as those seen during Storm Uri. The overall impact of price spikes in 2021 was $123.45/MWh, or 74% of the total average price.
