The Managing Director / General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic direction of the company in Australia. This role involves managing a diverse team, ensuring operational efficiency, and driving growth through the development and implementation of innovative energy solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the energy sector, exceptional leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the Australian energy market.

 

What will I be doing?

 

  • Deliver Australian P&L figures that align with the company’s forecasts and established board objectives.
  • Achieve sales metrics that include (but are not limited to):
    • Establishing a well-defined and significant customer pipeline by the end of month 3.
    • Conducting customer meetings and engagements as planned with the Managing Director.
    • Tracking pipeline progress.
    • Securing contract sales and corresponding MWs for ancillary services.
    • Meeting annual revenue and margin targets as agreed with the CCO, in alignment with company forecasts and board objectives.
  • Represent GridBeyond at various internal and external events, including webinars, seminars, industry gatherings, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Recruit and successfully onboard appropriate staff in collaboration with the CCO as needed.
  • Ensure the ongoing appropriateness of the office and its location for GridBeyond Australia, in agreement with the CCO.
  • Manage, and share management responsibilities for, key staff in the Australian office with ultimate accountability resting with the General Manager.
  • Provide support for product development feedback and contribute to market, competitor monitoring, and opportunity identification.

 

What do I need to be a good technical fit for this role?

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline (a Master’s degree is preferred).
  • Over 10 years of experience in the Australian energy sector, and/or experience selling to major industrial companies in the Steel, Glass, Cement, Chemicals, and Paper & Pulp industries, including experience with CHP/s and Battery storage
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a commercial team.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial sales within wholesale energy markets and ancillary services.
  • A robust network of contacts within the large industrial sectors of the Australian market.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to build interpersonal relationships.
  • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.

 We are seeking a skilled Senior Commercial Analyst to focus on utility-scale battery assets, with additional responsibilities in C&I solar and EV infrastructure. This dynamic role involves overseeing the product and commercial development of our behind-the-meter Energy Asset portfolio, supporting the sales team with proposals and technical analyses, and conducting financial assessments. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Originator to join our team. The Originator will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and originating new carbon and BESS optimisation deals in accordance with company guidelines and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy, excellent analytical skills, and a proven track record of success in origination or trading.

 

What will I be doing?

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities by building relationships with potential clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Build and lead a profit pillar around carbon and emissions trading, including: trading; risk management; contractual and commercial structure; customer targeting, marketing and sales approach.
  • Evaluate and contract new BESS and SaaS deals, ensuring they meet company standards and risk criteria.
  • Prepare and present detailed proposals and reports to senior management.
  • Manage the tender process for front-of-the-meter assets, ensuring timely and high quality responses.

What’s this role about?

 

We are looking for a highly qualified electrical engineer with significant experience in Grid Connections to take on a crucial role in facilitating the smooth integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The selected candidate will become part of our expanding US team, leading the design, optimization, and execution of small, medium, and large-scale projects. These projects will primarily focus on battery installations, smart switchgear, and transformer upgrades, enabling customers to connect their large energy-consuming assets to various grid schemes.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Offer technical guidance and expertise throughout all phases of the project, from the initial feasibility assessment to the site going live for both distribution and transmission connections.
  • Conduct preliminary grid feasibility assessments.
  • Create conceptual designs for interconnection facilities and associated costs.
  • Compile and manage the grid connection application process.
  • Evaluate utility interconnection studies (including feasibility, impact, and facility studies) and review connection agreements and designs.
  • Perform system studies and design for hybrid generation solutions.
  • Assess utility expansion plans to identify potential opportunities.
  • Carry out initial designs for battery integration as part of tender package.
  • Create high level tender packages and manger the tender process.

 

 

What will I be doing?

 

Utility Coordination:

  • Provide planning for grid and transmission systems, as well as congestion analysis, to support development activities primarily in the USA.
  • Prepare and manage the Utility Connection Agreement and Revenue Metering Plan.
  • Interface with utility companies during the study period and facilitate SCADA interface requirements.
  • Conduct consultations and reviews with relevant bodies during the permitting process.

 

Design Package Development

Create a design package for pricing that includes:

  • Connection agreements and support for third-party specialists.
  • Specifications for BESS functionality, control, and metering equipment.
  • Switchgear specifications for both LV and HV systems.
  • Utility protection, transformer, earthing, and cabling details.
  • Civil works requirements, including concrete slabs and fencing.
  • Monitoring specifications and AutoCAD drawings.
  • Compliance with relevant standards and directives.
  • Scripts for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and commissioning requirements.

 

Technical Documentation Review:

  • Review technical documentation from contractors, suppliers, and utilities.
  • Implement lessons learned from previous projects and assess for cost-saving solutions.
  • Ensure all required documentation is provided and understand project milestones.

Construction Phase Support:

  • Provide design-related support to installers and approve alternative solutions for unforeseen issues.
  • Conduct site inspections and proactively address any installation issues.
  • Maintain a lesson learned register and photo log of project progress

Commissioning:

  • Execute the commissioning checklist and test battery functionality.
  • Record results from BESS control screens, power analysers, and remote monitoring.
  • Confirm protection settings for circuit breakers and witness utility protection testing.
  • Update design drawings to reflect as-built conditions and create operation and maintenance manuals.

Relationship Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key customers and third-party contractors.
  • Stay informed about advancements in BESS, EV chargers, and PV technologies.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Utilize each project as an opportunity to refine design and execution processes.
  • Contribute to the development of a standards library, including templates, drawings, and equipment specifications.

 

Core Competencies:

Experience: A minimum of 5 years in the electrical and/or renewable fields, with specific experience in connecting renewables and BESS to the grid. Engaging utilities regarding connection agreements would be highly valued.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to produce comprehensive scope of work packages, including documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • In-depth understanding of BESS/UPS operation and installation.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems (both low voltage and high voltage) and civil engineering principles.

 

Regulatory Knowledge: Excellent understanding of local acts, regulations, permits, standards, and directives related to BESS.

Communication Skills: Proficient in both oral and written communication, enabling effective interaction with various stakeholders.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address challenges that may arise in the field.

Utility Knowledge: Understanding of utility grid practices, including interconnection, transmission

As the Market Strategy and Regulatory Manager at GridBeyond, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our market strategy, focusing on response and reserve, ancillary services, local network flexibility as well as capacity market activities in the UK. You will be responsible for navigating complex regulatory landscapes, identifying market opportunities, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

 

Market Strategy Development:

  • Conduct comprehensive market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and threats related to Balancing Market, Wholesale Market, capacity markets and other flexibility services in Japan.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective market strategies aligned with GridBeyond’s business objectives.
  • Monitor competitor activities and industry developments to stay ahead of market changes.

 

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes, guidelines, and standards affecting the energy industry, with a focus on response and reserve ancillary services and capacity markets.
  • Ensure that market regulatory risks are identified, and managed in customer contracts in line with company risk appetite.
  • Maintain a regulatory compliance framework to ensure GridBeyond’s adherence to all relevant regulations, and communicate this to internal operations and sales teams.

 

Market Participation:

  • Manage the company’s registration and participation in Balancing, Wholesale and capacity Markets as an Aggregation Co-ordinator.
  • Manage the company’s participation in capacity market auctions, ensuring accurate and timely submission of bids and compliance with all requirements.

 

Project Management

  • Project management of GridBeyond’s early customers, including site auditing, co-ordination with customers on market submissions, testing and support to customers troubleshooting.
  • Interface with company’s product team to support understanding of technical requirements.

 

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders, including OCCTO, METI, TDGC, JEPX, TSOs and other regulatory bodies, government agencies, and industry associations.
  • Represent GridBeyond in industry forums, conferences, and working groups to enhance the company’s visibility and influence.
  • Engage with strategic customers and partners in support of business development.

 

What do I need to be a good technical fit for this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in electricity market in Japan.
  • Experience and understanding of the Japanese electricity market in general.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Japanese energy regulatory landscape and capacity market mechanisms.
  • Strong understanding of demand response and energy management technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel and support commercial engagement with clients and strategic partners.

  • The successful candidate for this role will be tasked with enabling GridBeyond to grow a portfolio of: Standalone and co-located utility-scale BESS and other generation assets; route-to-market and trading services; and, SaaS.
  • Lead our Front of the meter propositions in Japan, participating in webinars, seminars and exhibitions, to grow our brand recognition and thought leadership activities
  • Supporting our continued success as a market-leading aggregation & optimisation service provider.
  • Japan is a fast growing market for utility-scale batteries and the successful candidate will sell the GridBeyond products and services to batteries utilized in other territories.
  • The role will offer significant scope for growth for the successful candidate.
  • The candidate must have a high standard of spoken and written English to all for effective working across regions.

 

What will I be doing?

Responsibilities include:

  • Understanding the opportunities across all available markets to maximize revenue for BESS target sector identified above in Japan.
  • Develop and progressing a sales pipeline in Salesforce of existing operational and to be built assets in key states.
  • Organizing face-to-face and remote meetings with key targets, and other market participants to enable sales success, especially BESS manufacturers and developers to forge strategic partnerships.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key decision makers and manage relationships with senior stakeholders using recognisable engagement mapping techniques such as Miller Heiman or equivalent.
  • Support the wider business understanding the Japan Battery market and the required product evolution to support sales success.
  • Work with your direct management team to originate PPA solutions to support business success.
  • Build qualitative strategic account plans to clearly present a path to success.
  • Supporting and progressing the development of market solutions in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure CRM system is fully updated and all information pertaining to sales leads and activity is entered at least weekly.
  • Run through territory planning calls and weekly sales reviews from CRM database highlighting risks and opportunities from activity entered into the CRM system.
  • Ensure that all monthly sales review material is in place for the Leadership team to evaluate at the monthly sales review.
  • Identifying opportunities to create additional cross-offerings and synergies based on client /industry demand.

 

The successful candidate will also possess:

  • A strong understanding of the Japanese UK energy markets, and experience of Power Trading would be a significant advantage.
  • A proven track record of delivering results within the Japanese Energy industry.
  • A self starter who is able to work of their own initiative to enable business success.
  • Commercial aptitude, with experience contributing to business strategy by identifying and pursuing market opportunities.
