The Managing Director / General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic direction of the company in Australia. This role involves managing a diverse team, ensuring operational efficiency, and driving growth through the development and implementation of innovative energy solutions. What will I be doing?
- Deliver Australian P&L figures that align with the company’s forecasts and established board objectives.
- Achieve sales metrics that include (but are not limited to):
- Establishing a well-defined and significant customer pipeline by the end of month 3.
- Conducting customer meetings and engagements as planned with the Managing Director.
- Tracking pipeline progress.
- Securing contract sales and corresponding MWs for ancillary services.

What do I need to be a good technical fit for this role?
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline (a Master’s degree is preferred).
- Over 10 years of experience in the Australian energy sector, and/or experience selling to major industrial companies in the Steel, Glass, Cement, Chemicals, and Paper & Pulp industries, including experience with CHP/s and Battery storage
- Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a commercial team.
- Demonstrated experience in commercial sales within wholesale energy markets and ancillary services.
- A robust network of contacts within the large industrial sectors of the Australian market.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to build interpersonal relationships.

The Originator will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and originating new carbon and BESS optimisation deals in accordance with company guidelines and objectives. What will I be doing?
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and develop new business opportunities by building relationships with potential clients, partners, and stakeholders.

What’s this role about?
We are looking for a highly qualified electrical engineer with significant experience in Grid Connections to take on a crucial role in facilitating the smooth integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The selected candidate will become part of our expanding US team, leading the design, optimization, and execution of small, medium, and large-scale projects. These projects will primarily focus on battery installations, smart switchgear, and transformer upgrades, enabling customers to connect their large energy-consuming assets to various grid schemes.
Responsibilities:
- Offer technical guidance and expertise throughout all phases of the project, from the initial feasibility assessment to the site going live for both distribution and transmission connections.
- Conduct preliminary grid feasibility assessments.
- Create conceptual designs for interconnection facilities and associated costs.
- Compile and manage the grid connection application process.
- Evaluate utility interconnection studies (including feasibility, impact, and facility studies) and review connection agreements and designs.
- Perform system studies and design for hybrid generation solutions.
- Assess utility expansion plans to identify potential opportunities.
- Carry out initial designs for battery integration as part of tender package.
- Create high level tender packages and manger the tender process.
What will I be doing?
Utility Coordination:
- Provide planning for grid and transmission systems, as well as congestion analysis, to support development activities primarily in the USA.
- Prepare and manage the Utility Connection Agreement and Revenue Metering Plan.
- Interface with utility companies during the study period and facilitate SCADA interface requirements.
- Conduct consultations and reviews with relevant bodies during the permitting process.
Design Package Development
Create a design package for pricing that includes:
- Connection agreements and support for third-party specialists.
- Specifications for BESS functionality, control, and metering equipment.
- Switchgear specifications for both LV and HV systems.
- Utility protection, transformer, earthing, and cabling details.
- Civil works requirements, including concrete slabs and fencing.
- Monitoring specifications and AutoCAD drawings.
- Compliance with relevant standards and directives.
- Scripts for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and commissioning requirements.
Technical Documentation Review:
- Review technical documentation from contractors, suppliers, and utilities.
- Implement lessons learned from previous projects and assess for cost-saving solutions.
- Ensure all required documentation is provided and understand project milestones.
Construction Phase Support:
- Provide design-related support to installers and approve alternative solutions for unforeseen issues.
- Conduct site inspections and proactively address any installation issues.

Commissioning:
- Execute the commissioning checklist and test battery functionality.
- Record results from BESS control screens, power analysers, and remote monitoring.

Relationship Management:

- Contribute to the development of a standards library, including templates, drawings, and equipment specifications.
Core Competencies:
Experience: A minimum of 5 years in the electrical and/or renewable fields, with specific experience in connecting renewables and BESS to the grid. Engaging utilities regarding connection agreements would be highly valued.
Technical Skills:
- Ability to produce comprehensive scope of work packages, including documents, drawings, and specifications.
- In-depth understanding of BESS/UPS operation and installation.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems (both low voltage and high voltage) and civil engineering principles.
Regulatory Knowledge: Excellent understanding of local acts, regulations, permits, standards, and directives related to BESS.

Market Strategy Development:

Regulatory Compliance:

Market Participation:
- Manage the company’s registration and participation in Balancing, Wholesale and capacity Markets as an Aggregation Co-ordinator.

Project Management
- Project management of GridBeyond’s early customers, including site auditing, co-ordination with customers on market submissions, testing and support to customers troubleshooting.
- Interface with company’s product team to support understanding of technical requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders, including OCCTO, METI, TDGC, JEPX, TSOs and other regulatory bodies, government agencies, and industry associations.
- Represent GridBeyond in industry forums, conferences, and working groups to enhance the company’s visibility and influence.
- Engage with strategic customers and partners in support of business development.
What do I need to be a good technical fit for this role?
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in electricity market in Japan.
- Experience and understanding of the Japanese electricity market in general.

- The successful candidate for this role will be tasked with enabling GridBeyond to grow a portfolio of: Standalone and co-located utility-scale BESS and other generation assets; route-to-market and trading services; and, SaaS.

What will I be doing?
Responsibilities include:
- Understanding the opportunities across all available markets to maximize revenue for BESS target sector identified above in Japan.
- Develop and progressing a sales pipeline in Salesforce of existing operational and to be built assets in key states.
- Organizing face-to-face and remote meetings with key targets, and other market participants to enable sales success, especially BESS manufacturers and developers to forge strategic partnerships.
- Cultivate strong relationships with key decision makers and manage relationships with senior stakeholders using recognisable engagement mapping techniques such as Miller Heiman or equivalent.
- Support the wider business understanding the Japan Battery market and the required product evolution to support sales success.
- Work with your direct management team to originate PPA solutions to support business success.
- Build qualitative strategic account plans to clearly present a path to success.
- Supporting and progressing the development of market solutions in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.
- Ensure CRM system is fully updated and all information pertaining to sales leads and activity is entered at least weekly.
- Run through territory planning calls and weekly sales reviews from CRM database highlighting risks and opportunities from activity entered into the CRM system.
- Ensure that all monthly sales review material is in place for the Leadership team to evaluate at the monthly sales review.
- Identifying opportunities to create additional cross-offerings and synergies based on client /industry demand.
The successful candidate will also possess:
- A strong understanding of the Japanese UK energy markets, and experience of Power Trading would be a significant advantage.
