Celebrating International Women’s Day and beyond
Today, 8 March, is International Women’s Day (IWD), a globally marked day that recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and raises awareness for gender equality. The global campaign theme for IWD 2025 is #AccelerateAction, emphasising the importance of taking “swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality”. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
At GridBeyond, we don’t just talk about change; we drive it. We are committed to leading the transition towards a zero-carbon future, integrating cutting-edge AI technology with the expertise of our exceptional team.
“At GridBeyond, we foster a culture of cooperation, communication, and shared knowledge, ensuring that our diverse team can tackle challenges head-on and shape the energy industry of tomorrow”, said GridBeyond Global Head of Human Resources Laura Merriman. “Our people are our greatest asset. We celebrate differences in background, experience, skills, and motivation, knowing that diversity fuels innovation. That’s why we’re taking proactive steps to foster a workplace where everyone can thrive”, Merriman added.
How GridBeyond is #AcceleratingAction
Closing the gender pay gap:
The Global Gender Gap Index by The World Economic Forum notes that in 2024 for 146 countries included the gap stands at 68.5%. Compared to the 2023 report the global gap has been closed by a further 0.1 percentage point (68.6% in 2023). The report also estimates it will take 134 years to reach full parity at the current rate.
At GridBeyond, we are committed to equal pay for equal work, ensuring all of our global team are compensated fairly for roles of similar scope and responsibility. We have taken a bold step by identifying a 28% pay gap one year ahead of statutory reporting obligations and have set out a plan to actively address it.
Since completing our Gender Pay Gap report, a new job levelling structure has been created with both job families and levels for each team in Ireland, with plans to roll this out globally and launched our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy journey.
Developing talent for the future
Over the last 24 months, we have doubled the amount of people that work with us and expanded our business operations over an international landscape. With people working in Ireland, UK, US, Japan and Australia-we are company that understands the importance of connection and thrive on the purpose of our work.
We are actively shaping a workplace where men and women are equally represented at all levels and in February 2025 we hired our second female C-Suite member, ran a series of Inclusive Leadership, Neurodiversity and Gender Pay Gap training sessions for the team and are actively recruiting for further female talent across our areas.
Through ongoing engagement with our employees, including employee net promoter score (eNPS) assessments, we continuously refine our policies to support career growth, enhance internal communication, and reinforce a shared mission.

Supporting flexible working for all:
With over 40% of working adults balancing caregiving responsibilities—from children to aging relatives—flexibility is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. Women continue to shoulder the majority of caregiving duties, making flexible work policies critical to gender equity. At GridBeyond, we offer formal and informal flexible working options to all employees, including our executive board. Our hybrid model, blending remote and office work, allows our team members to achieve a healthier work-life balance, ultimately enhancing productivity and well-being.
Enhancing parental leave benefits
Paid parental leave is a game-changer, not just for employees but for businesses. By offering enhanced maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave, we empower our employees to focus on their families without financial strain. A supportive parental leave policy strengthens our workplace culture, improves talent retention, and fosters a more engaged, motivated team. Simply put, investing in our people is not only the right thing to do—it’s a strategic business decision that drives long-term success.
A long-term commitment to lasting change
These initiatives are just the beginning. We are dedicated to making permanent, meaningful changes that will benefit both our current and future female colleagues. The energy sector still has work to do, but we are determined to lead by example, ensuring equity is not just an aspiration but a reality.
“At GridBeyond, we value diverse perspectives and recognise the immense contributions of all of our colleagues. The company is made up of brilliant people. Each of us is unique, whether in terms of our background, personal characteristics, experience, skills or motivations. And we value our people for the differences they bring to the table. We believe these differences – this diversity – is powerful”, said GridBeyond CEO Michael Phelan.
