Powering progress: GridBeyond’s 2025 journey

At GridBeyond, we believe that the future of energy should empower businesses, communities, and the planet. We exist because a resilient, decarbonised, and economically sustainable energy system is only possible when every asset plays its part. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to net zero by enabling organisations to unlock the full value of their energy and contribute meaningfully to a cleaner, smarter, more balanced grid. As we approach the end of 2025, we thought it was a good time to take a look back at some of the things that GridBeyond has achieved over the last year.

Changing technology

At the start of the year, GridBeyond worked extensively on our intelligent demand response service (FlexPilot). In markets where energy costs are unpredictable, having a tool that adapts in real-time is invaluable. This new service combines advanced forecasting with a digital twin of your operations to adjust energy usage dynamically. Unlike traditional demand response, FlexPilot provides the new data-led service optimises and controls manufacturing processes in-line with both asset parameters and energy markets.

Our work with battery storage systems also reached new heights in 2025. Gore Street Capital selected GridBeyond to optimize their 200MW energy storage system in California, one of our largest single deployments to date. December brought another major announcement as SmartestEnergy US selected GridBeyond as its technology partner to optimise three battery energy storage systems totalling 29.7MW. Our AI-driven Bid Optimizer technology ensures these battery systems capture maximum revenue by taking advantage of price spikes in ERCOT’s volatile market. Meanwhile in Japan GridBeyond, in partnership with PORT Inc., successfully completed Japan’s first ever Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR) operation at the PORT Gunma Isesaki battery, achieving response accuracy as forecast.

GridBeyond’s battery intelligence platform blends electrochemical analysis, real-time optimisation and market forecasting to unlock hidden capacity, improve dispatch precision and extend asset life. But, recognising that most energy storage assets aren’t limited by hardware, but by insight, inaccurate state-of-charge (SoC) measurements and imbalanced racks, behind the scenes our team have been rolling out improvements to our solutions for battery assets.

To improve our automation and control solutions, we have also rolled out a new Energy Management System (EMS) that includes custom dashboards, detailed reporting, and round-the-clock (24/7) NoC visibility into performance and operational status of connected assets.

New partners and markets

This year saw GridBeyond forge several significant partnerships that expanded our reach and reinforced our position as a global leader in energy optimisation.

In November, we announced a strategic partnership with ep Group, a UK energy transition company, to deliver AI-powered optimisation for their growing energy storage operations.

In May, we deepened our strategic partnership with ABB, following their 2024 investment in GridBeyond, to power ABB’s newly launched Battery Energy Storage Systems-as-a-Service (BESS-as-a-Service) offering. This collaboration brings together ABB’s expertise with our intelligent energy management solutions to deliver fully-managed energy storage services to commercial and industrial customers worldwide.

2025 also marked a year of significant market expansion for GridBeyond, particularly in Australia where we have been building momentum since launching operations in 2022. In January, we announced the launch of our new FCAS (Frequency Control Ancillary Services) price forecasting service in the Australian National Electricity Market, covering all five regions: Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania. This service provides the foundation for our digital trading and optimisation platform, enabling customers to monetise flexibility through demand response and battery energy storage systems.

Building on this, in June we launched an improved version of our Forecaster software for Australia, which consistently delivers more accurate results than AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator). When tested against AEMO forecasts for Q1 2025, our Forecaster outperformed by an average of 17% across the NEM. These improved forecasts translated into an increase in value for our clients.

In August, we expanded our Australian offering further with the launch of Bid Optimiser and Designer. These products provide asset owners with strategic advantages in optimising their energy and ancillary market involvement, maximising profitability at both individual asset and portfolio levels.

Our expansion wasn’t limited to Australia. We continued to strengthen our presence in the US market, particularly in ERCOT and California, where our advanced forecasting and optimisation capabilities have demonstrated significant revenue improvement over competing solutions during volatile market periods.

International recognition

GridBeyond was recognised as an industry leader throughout 2025, with our work receiving external validation through winning multiple prestigious industry awards including:

These awards (and the numerous others we were shortlisted for, which include four for our EDI and people commitments and one for our Energy Academy) reflect our technology and our ability to clearly explain, position, and deliver value to the market.

We believe that knowledge enables better decisions, greater innovation, and more confident participation in the energy transition. As markets and technologies evolve rapidly, clarity and understanding become essential.

One area where GridBeyond regularly receives recognition from the industry is through our Academy, which simplifies complex energy topics, breaking them down into accessible, practical insights for businesses at every stage of their energy journey.

In 2025 almost 10,000 industry experts attended our 24 webinars and almost 4,000 downloaded our white papers, which included:

We also expanded our Academy with the launch of the Energy Trends podcast, where our host and VP of Business Development Alden Phinney has already been joined by: Pedro Robredo, Senior Vice President of the Americas, ABB Electrification Service; Thomas Gilles, Commercial Manager at Gore Street Capital; and Anna Mayzenberg, Lead, Market Operations and Design at Key Capture Energy.

Reimagining EDI

It’s also clear that GridBeyond’s story is as much about people and culture as it is about growth and technology. Over the past year, GridBeyond has framed EDI not as a side initiative but as a core business strategy that underpins innovation in the fast‑changing energy sector. As a global company with colleagues from at least 16 nationalities, the business positions diversity of thought and experience as essential to solving complex challenges such as grid balancing, AI‑driven optimisation and the net‑zero transition.

A defining theme of 2025 has been the move from speaking about EDI in abstract terms to talking about respect as a daily practice, while appreciating that real culture change happens in conversations, decisions and micro‑behaviours rather than in documents alone.

In 2025, the company has partnered with Diversity and Inclusion Ireland to benchmark its current position and work towards a recognised global EDI certification, with leadership describing an ambition to reach a “silver medal” level as an interim target.

Internally, GridBeyond has rolled out initiatives such as inclusive leadership training, awareness campaigns around International Women’s Day and Pride, and structured work on gender pay reporting. These milestones are opportunities to listen and learn, with GridBeyond stressing that employees’ feedback on fairness, belonging and psychological safety will shape the next phase of the strategy. The overarching message is that building an inclusive culture is not a completed project but an ongoing commitment to “keep listening, learning and leading.”

Looking ahead

As we close out 2025, GridBeyond stands stronger than ever with over 1,200 client sites, managing +4.8GW of load portfolio and +700MW of battery storage across multiple continents. Our expansion into new markets, deepening partnerships, and continued innovation position us well to accelerate the global transition to net zero in 2026 and beyond.
