GridBeyond meet Yokogawa to discuss future business plan in Japan

GridBeyond exhibited and presented at the Smart Energy Week in Tokyo, one of the biggest platforms for new technologies, information, and people in the energy industry which takes place every year. During the conference, Scott Berrie, Director of Asset Optimisation spoke about frequency market saturation impacts on the business case and revenue model for battery energy storage assets.

The event was also an opportunity for GridBeyond’s CEO Michael Phelan and its investors Yokogawa to meet and discuss their strategies on advancing the energy transition in the Japanese market.

The two companies will work together providing technical knowledge and infrastructure resources to their C&I (commercial and Industrial) customers, battery developers and other market stakeholders to participate in several electricity grid services, including Demand Side Response (DSR), that it is used by grid operators to help balance electricity supply and demand. Businesses that have flexibility in their energy use, can use DSR to reduce their energy consumption during energy peak demand in return for revenues.

In addition, to support C&I customer, GridBeyond has recently launched Process Optimizer in Japan. This product provides new opportunities for manufacturers to gain revenue and support the net zero transition. Based on asset-level insight the new data-led product optimises and controls manufacturing processes in-line with asset parameters and energy markets and could generate up to £3,694,827 savings while supporting the grid integrate further renewables into the energy mix by opening up new sources of previously untapped flexibility.

“It was great to be here in Japan and work together with Yokogawa. The energy market in Japan is becoming more dynamic and complex and this is creating significant opportunities for businesses to support the grid and change how they power their operations. GridBeyond’s AI platform can support businesses to achieve net zero while at the same time generating revenues” commented Michael Phelan, GridBeyond CEO.
